St. Agnes Academy to Host

Anna’s Closet Dress Sale

St. Agnes Academy will sponsor the fifth annual Anna’s Closet, a second-hand dress sale to benefit young women in our community through the Emmanuel Center, on Saturday March 5 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The sale, which is open to the public, will be held in the Veritas Research Center at St. Agnes Academy located at 4830 Walnut Grove Road. All dresses will be sold for a $10 donation. Shoppers will be able to buy great prom dresses, black-tie Gala attire, or casual eveningwear.

In 2004, Anna Menkel, then a junior at St. Agnes, loaned her formal dress to an underclassman who was struggling to find the perfect dress. When the young girl tried to return the designer dress Anna’s reply was, “No. You keep it. It looks good on you!” After Anna was killed in a car accident in 2005, a St. Agnes student committee established Anna’s Closet to honor her generous spirit and share Anna’s good will toward all.

All the money raised through Anna’s Closet as well as any unsold dresses will be donated to the Emmanuel Center to help young women enjoy their prom and graduation. The Emmanuel Center, which serves the Cleaborn Homes and Foote Housing community, provides spiritual direction for youth and adults, organized sports, tutoring, summer camps and after school care. The center feeds and clothes the needy, offers emergency assistance and provides nearly 30 faith based programs that keep kids off the streets and on a track that facilitates success.

What is Stuck at Prom®?

Stuck at Prom® is an online contest that challenges students to create and accessorize their prom outfits with duct tape for the chance to win scholarship money.

What are the significant dates of the contest?

The contest timeline is as follows:

• Entry Period Begins – Monday, March 7, 2011
• Entry Period Ends – Monday, June 13, 2011
• Top 10 Announced – Friday, June 17, 2011
• Voting Begins – Friday, June 17, 2011
• Voting Ends – Monday, July 11, 2011
• Winners Announced – Wednesday, July 13, 2011

What are the scholarship prizes?

First Place: $5,000 each.
Second Place: $3,000 each.
Third Place: $2,000 each.
The seven remaining “runners up” couples will each receive $500.

The school that hosted a winning couples’ prom will also receive the same prize amount for that winner. (Example: The school of the First Place winner will receive $5,000, the school of the Second Place winner will receive $3,000, and so on.)

If I enter, does Duck® brand supply the tape?

Every contestant is responsible to supply the duct tape needed to create their outfits. This applies to both individuals and schools.
